Barbara
Hance is an elder care expert and paralegal with over 20 years
of experience in the Greater Hartford, CT area.
She started Barbara Hance Associates, Inc. in 1987 to meet the
growing financial and health management needs of the elderly
and disabled. Barbara specializes in estates, trusts, conservatorships
and the handling of personal and financial affairs of her aging
clientele. Her duties are sometimes so diverse, she frequently
refers to herself as a "rent-a-daughter."
In addition to her recently published book, Don't Buy
Green Bananas.... A Humorous Journey through the Sometimes Puzzling
World of Aging, Barbara is also a columnist with articles
appearing in many of Connecticut's weekly newspapers. In her
column "New Wrinkles," Barbara takes on many topics regarding
the elderly and our society's changing view towards them.
Barbara is a frequent keynote speaker on advocacy topics such
as dealing with financial and legal strategies for the elderly
as well as caregiver concerns and family issues managment. In
her mission to bring the plight of the aging to the forefront,
Barbara has developed an educational program to help police
and healthcare workers recognize elder abuse and exploitation.
Barbara is has appeared as a guest on the NBC-TV "Today Show"
in an interview with Matt Lauer in which she addressed problems
of the aging process, financial issues associated with it and
the importance of communication between adult children and their
aging parents.
Barbara holds a Paralegal degree from Hartford College for Women
and has studied at the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegals.
She serves as a Board Member of the American Association of
Daily Money Managers based in Maryland and is President of the
Board of Directors for the Seniors Job Bank in West Hartford,
Connecticut. Other affiliations include: American Society on
Aging, Central Connecticut Association of Legal Assistants,
Connecticut Bar Association, Connecticut Coalition on Aging,
Connecticut Gerontology Society, Greater Hartford Alzheimer's
Association Speakers Bureau, National Council on Aging, National
Federation of Paralegals, and the National Institute on Financial
Issues and Services for Elders.
Barbara H. Hance Associates, Inc. has offices in Avon and in
Farmington, Connecticut. Barbara lives in Avon with her husband
Gary and dog Boomer. The couple has five children and three
grandchildren.
